When interviewed by Science and Technology Daily, Song Xin, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP), noted that after the outbreak of COVID-19, CECEP gave full use to its advantages in medical and hazardous waste disposal to treat various contaminations according to the highest standards and the strictest requirements. It insisted on screening risks across the entire process, so as to prevent  secondary contamination. Based on the arrangement of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment as well as the needs of the municipal government of Wuhan on epidemic prevention and control, CECEP promptly dispatched an ecological work team to support Wuhan and completed the construction of the city’s medical waste disposal center within 14 days, which would usually take at least six months. It was also responsible for the treatment center’s subsequent operation and maintenance, greatly relieving the grave pressure on Wuhan in medical waste disposal. This move also created the “CECEP speed” in the construction of medical waste treatment projects in the new era.

In the near future, CECEP will support the state and local governments in plugging the loopholes in infrastructure and public services, and take active action to seek breakthroughs in fields like hazardous and medical waste, garbage, and sewage treatment.
